After a long week of construction work, we are exhausted, well maybe not me but Amberly is. Doing Habitat in Hungary was a great and fun experience. We got to spend two days in Budapest before heading to a small village about 2 hours outside the city. We were worried about our living condition at first for we were told that we will be staying at a campground in some cabins, and from Amberly's prior experience of staying in Eastern European cabins it might not be the best of places to stay. Well once we got to the so called cabins we were really excited because they turned out to be more like apartments. They also had two pools and a thermal medicinal bath, which is very popular in Hungary. The next day we got straight to work. Amberly worked inside sanding and plastering the joints in the walls while I worked outside digging a hole for the water main. Amberly had a hard time the first day for she had no idea what she was doing, and the site foreman was not much of a teacher. So the next day, I was called inside to help with the plastering because of my experience, but ended up installing dry wall while Amberly continued to plaster and sand, but with my help she was a lot better at it. The rest of the week consisted of me installing dry wall with some plastering (mostly fixing gaps in the dry wall that other people put up) while Amberly continued to plaster and also did some painting. We also got to meet some of the people that we were building the house for and see where they live now so we could compare the two. Even though we could not communicate with them we could tell they were truly grateful. I would definitely recommend doing this to anyone interested. Habitat has tons of locations throughout the world; places close to your community and overseas.
